Applied Kinesiology and Chiropractic
How is
Applied Kinesiology different from chiropractic? Applied Kinesiology is
a specialty involving several years of study more than the Doctor of
Chiropractic degree. All Doctors of Chiropractic complete a four year,
4,000 hour course of study after college graduation, similar to medical
school. This includes basic biological and diagnostic sciences. They are
then licensed as physicians by state board examination. Chiropractors usually then limit themselves to manipulation of various
bones and joints throughout the body, especially the spine.
Applied Kinesiologists spend several additional years studying methods
to test and treat the muscular system, acupressure points and internal
organs. In addition to manipulating the spine and other joints, they do
a much larger number of techniques to influence the nervous system. They
also may have studied other specialty areas including acupuncture,
nutrition, cranial therapy, myofascial trigger points, etc.
Applied Kinesiology is used to treat most muscle and joint problems,
stomach and digestive function, allergies, headaches, fatigue,
arthritis, knee, shoulder, wrist, and foot problems, carpal tunnel
syndrome, menstrual and hormonal disorders, insomnia, etc., as well as
neck and back pain.
Most of our patients have been to other doctors. When they see how
comprehensive, complete and effective Applied Kinesiology is,
they are almost always extremely happy to have found us! In addition to
all the usual chiropractic manipulations, we favor very gentle non-force
adjustments of the spine.
SOME CONDITIONS THAT RESPOND WELL TO
APPLIED KINESIOLOGY AND/ OR NUTRITIONAL INTERVENTION
Applied Kinesiology is a specialty within the chiropractic
profession. It consists of hundreds of different tests to evaluate
muscle strength and function, as well as joint mobility in the spine,
pelvis, jaw, arms and legs, etc. It also can provide information on the
way the nervous system is controlling all the various glands and organs
throughout the body. Treatment then consists of many types of gentle
acupressure and soft tissue manipulation, chiropractic adjustments, deep
muscle techniques, cranial therapy, and nutritional supplementation to
improve and restore normal function. People of all ages, including
infants and 95 year olds, can be treated easily.
Applied
kinesiology corrections frequently result in immediate improvement of
function and rapid relief of pain; muscles gain dramatically in
strength, joints regain range of motion, intestinal spasm may subside,
the lungs may breath more freely, and other improvements in internal
organs take place. Treatment may affect many organs and glands, as well
as the muscles and joints of the body. After a series of treatments most
patients, in addition to improvement in their complaints, report that
they have much more energy, and their mood is much improved. They often
say that they feel better all over.
Applied
kinesiology is frequently effective in the following conditions;
Low
Back Pain,
including lumbar disc problems and sciatica ,even after
other forms of treatment have been ineffective, applied kinesiology may
provide relief for low back pain.
Many
cases of failed back surgery improve with kinesiological care.
Headaches
there are many non-drug alternatives for headaches, including several
forms of cranial and TMJ (jaw) therapy, gentle deep muscle manipulation
of the neck and shoulders, food allergy avoidance, and many types of
painless chiropractic manipulation. Many headaches are due to sinus or
intestinal problems, which can be greatly helped.
Neck
and mid-back pain
chronic and acute neck pain can frequently be helped by elimination of
trigger points in the neck and shoulder muscles, using a cold spray,
post isometric relaxation, acupressure, natural apophoseal glide
movements and many other techniques. Limited ability to turn the head
can often be corrected.
Arthritis,
bursitis and tendonitis of
all kinds can frequently be relieved.
Shoulder
and arm pain. Many
people have weak muscles in the arms and shoulders that can be helped
with proper nerve stimulation and applied kinesiology. Even long term
and post surgical shoulder problems can be aided.
Trauma
due to automobile accidents and worker's compensation injuries.
Carpal
Tunnel Syndrome, Hand and Wrist Pain. Muscle spasm and shortening, and adhesions, frequently
contribute to these problems. These can be greatly aided by proper
trigger point therapy, neuromuscular therapy and acupressure.
Knee
and foot problems- many
patients have avoided surgery for knee and foot problems by getting
applied kinesiological care.
TMJ
dysfunction and some types of dental and root canal pain.
Some types of pain in the teeth and jaw may be due to muscle imbalance
in the jaw and neck. Clicking jaws and restricted mouth opening can
frequently be helped.
Sciatica
and hip pain. Sports Injuries. All types of sprains, strains, muscle and joint injuries can
often be quickly resolved.
Allergies
and sinus problems -can
be greatly aided or eliminated by using applied kinesiology and
nutritional supplements.
Fatigue
- most cases of fatigue including people diagnosed as chronic fatigue
syndrome can be greatly improved. Most patients notice a definite
improvement in their energy level. Nutritional supplements, avoidance of
food allergies, elimination of infections, and stimulation of glandular
nerve centers may all be important.
Dizziness
and Vertigo, Ringing in the ears. Many forms of vertigo are due to the upper part of the neck being
out of place. These respond well to gentle treatment.
Hypoglycemia
- usually
responds well to kinesiological treatment.
Irritable
Bowel Syndrome, Colitis, some cases of Inflammatory Bowel Disease,
Hemorrhoids, Diarrhea, Constipation, Gastritis, Ulcers, Stomach bloating
and gas, reflux esophagitis ("heartburn")- digestive
problems usually respond well to nutrition and acupressure. There are
specific treatments to relieve intestinal spasm and gas, increase
circulation, stop pain, improve digestion, heal intestinal ulcers,
soothe irritated tissue, etc.
Gallstones
-in many cases
gallstones can be passed and gall bladder surgery can be avoided using
acupressure and herbal supplements. One study indicated that most gall
bladder attacks are due to food allergy reactions.
Insomnia
and nightmares
can almost always be resolved, even in cases of long standing.
Depression
- many patients
with longstanding depression have been able to feel relief for the first
time in years.
Unresolved grief can usually be relieved. Long standing emotional
traumas that are still bothering a patient can usually be relieved by a
technique known as Thought Field Therapy.
Anxiety,
Phobias, and Panic Attacks- kinesiological and nutritional treatment will often provide
marked relief from these problems.
Herpes
Simplex (Recurrent
Outbreaks), Severe Canker Sores frequently respond to nutritional
therapy.
Acne,
Dermatitis , Eczema,
Some Types Of Non Healing Wounds Or Burns and other skin problems are
usually helped by vitamin and herbal therapy.
Premenstrual
Syndrome, including
depression, breast tenderness, water retention, headaches, acne,
bloating, and menstrual cramps can usually be helped. Other
gynecological symptoms such as frequent yeast infections, excessive
bleeding or spotting, low sex drive, low back pain, abnormal Pap smears,
etc. also respond well.
Infertility
- many women who have been infertile have been able to conceive with the
aid of Applied Kinesiology treatments, even after fertility drugs have
been unsuccessful. The cause of failure to conceive may be due
structural imbalance in the pelvis, torsion in the lumbar spine (lower
back), muscle tension in the abdomen, nutritional deficiencies, or
hormonal irregularities. All of these can be addressed with non drug
treatment.
Menopausal
Symptoms such as
hot flashes, mood swings, irregular or excessive menstrual bleeding,
depression, anxiety, headaches, low sex drive, etc. respond well to
treatment.
High
blood pressure can
frequently be lowered naturally. Angina and chest pain can
frequently be reduced without drugs.
Stroke.
Applied
Kinesiology can be a great aid in post stroke recovery.
Colds
and flu, frequent sore throats, bronchitis. The symptoms can be helped immediately. Stimulating the
immune system can almost always prevent frequent colds.
Recurrent
bladder infections and prostate problems usually respond well to manipulation and nutrition.
Post-surgical
pain of many
kinds can be eliminated.
Many
doctors practice a little applied kinesiology. However, it is a very
complex set of procedures. Dr.
Stephen J. Kaufman has been a member of the International College
of Applied Kinesiology from 1980-2001, and has published over 75
professional papers in his field. He has originated and developed many new techniques
in applied kinesiology and natural healing. He is one of the most
innovative, widely published Applied Kinesiologists in the world.
